Very unstable and unusable windows keeps crashing when using the headset

Very unstable and unusable windows keeps crashing when using the headset
Brilliant bit of hardware but unfortunately the software and drivers are too unstable resulting in constant system crashes to completely blue screening. I thought at first for was something on my existing setup so I purchased a new SSD and installed a fresh copy of windows 10 and updates. Sadly this has not resolved the issue and I have had to contact HTC vive for support. I am using this VR kit on brand new premium grade PC components and have ruled out it being a hardware problem with the PC. As soon as you uninstall the HTC Vive pro 2 software and driver my PC is instantly restored to being completely reliable again with no further blue screening. I have reinstalled the software again and back to blue screening and fatal errors in windows as soon as you turn on the VR link box. I’m in contact with Vive support and they are blaming Nvidia drivers!! I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get this to work by rolling back previous drivers! Despite 3 emails with suggestions from HTC support this is still unresolved and at present this thing is not fit for purpose and I would advise against buying it.

I originally bought this after looking for hours at different VR headsets. I can't speak for others who have tried numerous headset generations and comparing to the Index but I am overall happy with the headset.

I also purchased with this headset a smaller profile face pad which increased my FOV slightly and a cable management track to help hold the cable out of the way.

The visuals are crisp, the 5k display is great, you do not perceive any screen door effect, and the high refresh rates allow for really smooth gameplay. As everyone says this does get let down by the lenses. In menus and beat saber I immediately noticed the so called 'god rays' although when actually playing I never noticed this as they only appear on high contrast menus (white text on black background) in HL Alyx gameplay I never noticed this. Finding the sweet spot is important in reducing artifacting and making sure the lenses are as close as possible to your eyes, which is a problem for any people such as my partner who wears glasses, they need the lenses moved further away, severely reducing FOV and increasing distortion. Contacts can help but there are some other headsets which have adjustments to allow prescription adjustments.

The tracking is also a strong point as the Vive Pro 2 comes with 2 lighthouse bases for room scale tracking which works flawlessly and allows you to switch out for any number of accessories like leg trackers, or to even swap out the controllers. I will be swapping out the controllers for the Index ones which feature finger tracking, the Vive controllers I found are not great for gaming and are clunky.

It's difficult to say if I would have gotten the Index as in pure specs the Vive Pro 2 beats it which was the deciding factor for me. It feels very much like a push of last gen tech, and the argument for the Index Vs Pro becomes challenging, apparently the lens design on the Index is better.

I think overall this gives you the best of both worlds, if I could get this as a bundle with Index controllers I would do it in a heart beat. I will likely keep this for a few years and when the time is right and other tech has matured I will likely go down the upgrade path of the Bigscreen Beyond which should be a drop in replacement to the existing ecosystem although that headset alone at the time of reviewing is about the same cost as any leading VR kit.

It's amazing, much better than my nephews oculus quest by miles. The high resolution of the display makes this a dream to use. Tracking is spot on and the audio is fantastic. Running on a 6800XT, 5800X3D, 64GB RAM.

How is it that everyone praises and marvels at the image quality in Vive pro 2? I've seen a few videos where everyone raves about Vive pro 2. Why nobody talks about the disadvantages only about the advantages. I bought Vive pro 2 because on YouTube you talk so beautifully about the beauty of the image, and the truth is completely different. The lenses in these goggles for this price are totally hopeless. The image is not sharp, blurry, you can see some streaks until the eyes hurt. For the price, your jaw should drop, not be disappointed. I have a Pico 4 which displays a bigger and clearer image. One thing I miss in Pico 4 is 120 HZ instead of 90 Hz. Pico 4 costs 3 times less and is more comfortable to wear for a long time, better not blurry and not overexposed image.

Seems like a good purchase because the resolution is the highest on the VR consumer market right now. However, it's worth remembering that you'll need a GPU capable of pushing at least 150% of the total resolution, or about 6-8K. My 3060ti is barely keeping up, so keep that in mind when it tells you you only need a GTX 1060 6GB.

The controllers are rubbish, I would recommend just getting Valve Index ones if you can. They're enormous, clunky, and have terrible touchpads.
The basestations are a pain to set up. Be warned: If you buy this VR Kit, you will have to drill these into your walls. You will need tall ceilings that go at least 2ft above head height. You will need a large space. They also go to power sockets so they will look ugly.

Overall the resolution is nice, but HTC cheaped out on the panel and lenses, resulting in washed out colours and a bad visual experience. I DO NOT recommend buying this.

I initially intended to buy this item at the sale price of £1,100.00 but accidently ordered the original Vive Pro rather than the Pro 2. By the time I had sorted the finance the sale had finished and was informed no exception could be made. This was a replacement for a Hewlett Packard g2. that had died not too long after the warranty had expired. I could not make sensible contact with Hewlett Packard regarding a fault that was widely reported by users on line but apparently denied by HP. I specifically wanted a headset for use with Steam VR, thus putting aside Meta and Pico. In terms of visual clarity the Vive Pro 2 is excellent, with the proviso of having more 'god rays' than the Hewlett Packard Reverb. Sound is not so good, with the Reverb (when it actually could be turned up loud enough) much better. Standard of construction is very good. I looked at reliability online and it appeared very good compared to others. I am not totally sold on the provided wand controllers although I accept this may be me not used to them. When the credit card debt is cleared I may well go for the Valve Index controllers.
Overall: With current knowledge, I probably would not purchase this item again at the full price, althoughI would reccomend it if you can get the lower sale price. I hope this is going to be more reliable than my previous VR headset and if it lasts more than three years I will be happy.
